PS2206: How Mathematics should be taught?

Mathematics teaching should make sense. It's no use to teach something to the pupils if it doesnt make any sense to them. Therefore, Mathematics teaching should link what the pupils have known and to what the subject is all about. Examples of how the subject matter is useful in their daily lives will also make the teaching makes sense. The use of manipulatives will also help the children to strengthen their basic four operations.

Teachers should incorporate the use of available materials to help the pupils to think more abstractly and the teachers also shouldnt be afraid to use technologies in the teaching. Furthermore, teaching mathematics with the use of technologies such as ICT should be more fun and thus will help the pupils to focus more on the lesson.

The use of extra teaching materials such as puzzles and games in mathematics lessons will benefit the children, not only in focusing on the lesson, but also help them to be competitive and promote speedier thinking.
